Itinerary

Day 1: Cuiaba - Northern Pantanal

On your arrival into Cuiaba you will be met at the airport by your guide who will transfer you south to Pocone (please ensure that you arrive before 11:30am as this transfer is set to leave at 12:30), the start of the Transpantaneira Highway. This is a 145 kilometre long dirt road that leads south through the heart of the Pantanal ending at the Cuiaba River in Jofre. As you enter the Transpantaneira Highway you start to see families of capybaras, pools of caiman and flocks of water birds and raptor; let your wildlife safari begin! En route to the lodge you will have the chance to stop and enjoy the many lakes and streams which are packed full of animals. After this 2 hour drive, arrive at your lodge in time for an afternoon outing and spend a relaxing evening before your wildlife adventure truly beings tomorrow.

Overnight accommodation

Pousada Piuval - Located near the start of the legendary Transpantaneira Highway, Pousada Piuval is the ideal base to start or finish your exploration into the Pantanal. Day 3: Northern Pantanal - Jaguar Viewing Area

After an early breakfast, head out on another guided activity before lunch at the lodge and continuing your adventure south, down the Transpantaneira Highway to Porto Jofre, about 3 hours away. En route you will have the chance to stop and enjoy the views and look out for the resident wildlife. Jaguars are often along the final 35 kilometres of the road before getting to Jofre so keep a keen eye glued to the road for possible sightings. On arrival, settle into your lodge by the river.

Overnight accommodation

Hotel Pantanal Norte - Thought to be the best hotel in the Pantanal area, Porto Jofre is simple yet spacious and often used by the fishermen of the area. Located at the end of the Transpantaneira Highway, on the banks of the Cuiaba River, it is the perfect base for jaguar spotting. The 28 en-suite rooms have ample space and the well maintained gardens are often frequented by Hyacinth macaws and toco toucans.

Day 4 - 7: Jaguar Viewing

Spend the next 4 days exploring and searching for jaguars and giant otters on Three Brothers, Cuiaba and Piquiri Rivers. Enjoy two boat outings per day, returning to the lodge for lunch and some time to relax. This is the best place in the world to see these elusive cats in the wild and we are proud to report an average of 2 sightings per day on these waters. Other possible sightings include tapir, giant river otters, caiman, ocelot and even elusive pumas who are known to share this habitat with the jaguars. At the end of the day, return to your accommodation where you will be able to edit photos, compare sightings with other guests or just sit back and relax by the pool.
