Located in the heart of Bahia, Chapada Diamantina has flat topper mountains, canyons, valleys, trails, caves and the most impressive Brazilian waterfalls. Chapada is like an oasis in the wilderness. Pati Valley trekking is almost 900m deep and was once a coffee plantation and now is home for around 30 families that open their house for trek lovers. Pati Valley trekking is one of the most beautiful trekking in Brasil. Sleep in native homes and experience all Chapada Diamantina deep nature for a few nights.

Itinerary

Day 1: In/ Salvador / Lençóis – Morro do Pai Inácio

Meet the guide at the hotel in Salvador around 6AM and be transferred in a private vehicle to the bus station. Catch the regular bus departing Salvador at 7AM, and estimated arrival in Lençóis is at 1PM (408 km – without guide). Upon arrival, meet your local guide, and after lunch (not included), visit Morro do Pai Inácio. After sunset, return to your accommodation in Lençóis.

Optional (not included):

  • Take a private land transfer from Salvador to Lençóis with English speaking guide (around 5h to 6h drive)
  • Take a commercial direct flight from SSA to LEC, available only on Thursdays and Sundays (around 1h flight). Upon arrival, the private transfer from LEC Airport to the town takes around 30 minutes.

Morro do Pai Inácio (1240m) – It takes around 25 minutes by car from Lençóis. The walk up to the top is steep but easy and it takes about 15 minutes (800m). It’s one of the highlights in Chapada Diamantina, from where it is possible to have some of the most spectacular views of the region with series of flat-topped mountains that are so characteristic for this landscape. It is very windy up there. We recommend going late afternoon to enjoy the sunset.

Day 2: Lençóis / Guiné / Pati Valley / Local House – Cachoeirão (BLbD)

After breakfast, meet your guide at the hotel, check-out, and be transferred to Povoado do Guiné (around 2hs by car). From there you’ll start the most beautiful trekking in Brazil. The complete route is from Guiné to Andaraí, passing through unexplored waterfalls and altitude fields, besides the precious contact with the isolated natives of the region. The first day starts with a visit at Cachoeirao (280m) before going into the valley for 16km of hiking (moderate level). Lunch box is included on the way. By the end of the afternoon, arrive in a native house to spend the night. Dinner is included and overnight in shared accommodations.

Day 3: Pati Valley / Local House (BLbD)

After breakfast, continue hiking through the Pati Valley towards another local house. The route can be defined locally as per the guide’s suggestions. Dinner is included and overnight in shared accommodations.

Options to be chosen locally (included):

  • Easy level – Wake up later and walk through the Mr. Wilson’s trail towards Mr. Jóias’s house (12km).
  • Moderate level – Visiting “Cachoeira dos Funil” and walk towards Mr. Jóias’s house (16km).
  • Hard level – Visiting “Morro do Castelo” in the morning, return to have lunch and walk towards a native house (16km).

Day 4: Pati Valley / Andaraí / Iguatu – Poço Azul (BLD)

Day to wake up early. Finish the last day of Pati Valley Trekking, with a 12km hike (easy level). Arrival at Andaraí in the afternoon and it’s where a jeep will be waiting. Continue the day visiting the Poço Azul, located about 30km on paved road and 15km on dirt road from Andaraí (approximately 50min). Enjoy lunch nearby. Afterwards, transfer back by car (1h) to your accommodation in Xique-Xique de Igatu, a small village – known as our Brazilian “Machu Picchu”. Dinner is included at a local restaurant.

Poço Azul – A crystal water lake in a cave, nicknamed Enchanted Pool "little brother", it’s smaller and has a wooden platform for an easy access to the pool. The lighting changes according to the sun’s displacement (from March to November). Is allowed snorkeling for about 20 minutes.

Day 5: Igatu / Lençóis / Salvador / Out (B)

After breakfast, meet your guide at the hotel, check-out, and be transferred by car until Lençóis bus station (approximately 110km and 1h30min). Catch the regular bus departing Lençóis at 1:15PM, and estimated arrival in Salvador is at 8PM (408 km – without guide). Upon arrival, meet your guide and private transfer to your accommodation OR to the airport.

  • Take a commercial direct flight from LEC to SSA, available only on Thursdays and Sundays (around 1h flight).
