Divers aboard Emperor Explorer will cruise the celebrated central Maldivian Atolls,
gliding past uninhabited islands and shockingly turquoise lagoons
on the way to each of the four dives (provided most charter days).

Socorro is all about amazing interaction with our favourite giant mantas.
No other mantas in the world behave like this. We don’t know why but we love it!!
And the mantas clearly love us back. Research indicates that there are more giant mantas
and more biomass at Socorro during bait ball season than any other time of year.

Everything intensifies with more sharks – including schooling silky sharks –
schooling hammerheads, whale sharks, lots of tuna and other pelagic fish and even pilot whales. You can expect water temps in the mid – high 70’s.

One Day San Francisco Great White Shark Adventure

The Farallon Islands – Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary
The one-day shark adventures depart from Pier 40/South Beach Harbor, next to AT&T Park in San Francisco.  They typically depart for the Farallones before sunrise so we can be on location and have our shark cage in the water during peak sighting times.

Getting to and from the Farallones is half the fun.
You’ll travel to the Farallones aboard the Derek M Baylis, a specially-designed 65 ft sailing research vessel.  The Baylis provides a safe, comfortable and environmentally-friendly platform for research and education.  She’s the same vessel utilized by the Sanctuary’s long-time white shark researchers.

Typical travel time to the islands is about three hours.
During the trip offshore, we’ll serve breakfast and our certified naturalist will fill your brain
with shark facts and Sanctuary trivia. We may even show some shark videos!

The official viewing season is from September 15th until November 30th.
Cost per person: $475 for Topside Observer, $825 for Cage Diver.

Great White Shark – Up to 20 ft (6.1 m)
Great white sharks live in almost all coastal waters
with temperature between 54 and 75 °F.
They prey on marine mammals, fish & seabirds yet have no known natural predators other than, occasionally, the killer whale.
It has a robust, large, conical snout. The upper and lower lobes on the tail fin are approximately the same size.

Hammerhead Sharks
Hammerhead sharks are consummate predators that use their oddly shaped heads to improve their ability to find prey.

Their wide-set eyes give them a better visual range than most other sharks and their mallet-shaped head can more thoroughly scan the ocean for food.
It can grow up to 20 feet in length and weigh up to 1,000 pounds, although smaller sizes are more common.
Found in temperate and tropical waters worldwide, far offshore and near shorelines, hammerheads are often seen in mass summer migrations seeking cooler water.

Tiger Sharks &

Tiger Shark – Up to 16 ft (5 m)
Tiger Sharks are found in many tropical and temperate waters throughout the world, and are especially common around central Pacific islands.
Its name derives from the dark stripes down its body that resemble a tiger’s pattern, which fades as the shark matures.
Although a relatively rare phenomenon, the tiger shark is responsible for a large percentage of fatal attacks.

Whale Sharks – Up to 46 ft (14 m)
The whale shark is found in tropical and warm oceans and lives in the open sea, with a lifespan of about 70 years.
Whale sharks have very large mouths for filter feeding. The head is wide and flat with two small eyes at the front.
Whale sharks are grey with a white belly. Their skin is marked with pale yellow spots and stripes which are unique to each individual.
