The underwater world is as varied and exciting as the fabled topside.
Dive in the warm, crystal clear waters and discover a garden of
underwater delights. Diving in PNG offers an exquisite plethora
of soft and hard coral reefs, unusual sea life, dramatic drop offs,
brightly colored reef fish, sharks, dolphins, and some of the best
wreck diving in the Pacific.
Diving PNG: Dive sites in PNG are truly a magical
experience. PNG lies within the Ring of Fire; this
area is proven to offer the most species of marine life in the world.
From
the famous muck dives for serious macro photographers
in Milne Bay to Kimbe Bay's pristine pinnacles that
we so dearly love, housing every living marine species plus vibrant
hard and soft corals, huge sea fans of every color and vibrant gorgonians.
From big fish action with sharks, schools of jacks,
barracuda's and big tuna cruising the scene in Kavieng to Madang's
countless, endless species of nudibranch's
will surprise and delight divers of every type.
Diving PNG offers something for everyone. Land
and underwater photographers will be spell bound with the abundance
of opportunities to fill their palette. PNG is truly a land of untouched
splendor and diversity to touch the hearts and souls of the most
intrepid traveler.
Dive Seasons - Diving is possible year-round with optimal
seasons of April - June and September-December.
Water Temperatures - Consistent 79°F along the edge of
the Coral Sea and up to 87°F in the Bismarck Sea.
Topside Climate - Coastal regions experience a tropical
climate year-round. Temperatures on the coast may vary
between 75°F - 85°F. If venturing to the Highlands prepare
for mid 60ºF during the day with cooler evenings. Dry
season is May - November.
Visibility - Dependent on area, expect anywhere from
50 - 150 Feet.
Suit - 3mm suits are available to hire from any dive
operator.
Luggage - For domestic flights within PNG, standard
luggage allowance is 35lbs. Divers are often able to enjoy
an additional 33lbs if traveling with dive gear. Consult
your airline before departure on specific restrictions for
your flight.
