M/Y Resolute

M/Y Resolute - Philippines Liveaboards - Dive Discovery Philippines

The M/Y Resolute is a Philippine-registered Dive and Pleasure yacht currently cruising in the Philippines. Operating since 1998, she is currently one of the longest-running liveaboard vessels in the country with a highly-experienced crew. From March to June she journeys to Tubbataha—the gem of diving in the Philippines, providing guests with five days of diving in the UNESCO heritage site’s atolls and reefs. During the cooler months of July to October, the M/Y Resolute navigates around the island of Cebu, treating divers to whale sharks, thresher sharks, and colorful critters. The ship then moves on to the second largest contiguous reef in the world—Apo Reef—offering hammerheads, reef sharks, barracudas and other pelagics. For the rest of the year she sets up in the Batangas area, making weekly trips to Verde Island Passage and Puerto Galera from her home base in Anilao.

She has also participated in several underwater archeological missions (Esperanza, Panagatan cays 1999; Hispaniola 2000; Santa Cruz 2001) and surveys (from 1998 to 2011). The ship most recently participated in the relief efforts for Tacloban due to super typhoon Yolanda from December 2013 to the first quarter of 2014 with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF)

Tubbataha Reef (Season: March - June)

The Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park (TRNP) is widely acknowledged as the apex of Philippine Diving. It is made up of 2 Atolls separated by a deep 8 kilometer channel plus the adjacent Jessie Beazely Reef. It is guarded 24/7 by a composite team of rangers and has been recently hailed as a marine conservation model.

Divers come here for the incredible corals, huge schools of fish and the chance to see lots of sharks and manta rays. Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park is both a National Marine Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and was nominated recently as one of the new 7 wonders of nature. There are only 2 small island in the park, both of which are off-limits to visitors.

This is also one of the last places in Asia with guaranteed shark sightings on almost every dive. Expect to encounter white tip, grey reef, nurse and hammerhead sharks.

This 100,000 hectare natural park is only accessible from April to June due to sea and weather conditions. This small weather window guarantees the pristine conditions of the marine flora and fauna. An average of only 1200 divers visits the park every year. Their fees contribute approximately 60% of the funds needed to protect and conserve this jewel located in the middle of the Sulu Sea.
