Overview

San Ignacio Lagoon Cabañas

Fly or drive at your convenience to our newest camp in San Ignacio Lagoon, booking the dates that work best for you. Situated on a lovely expanse of beachfront in a World Heritage site, the property provides easy access to hundreds of gray whales who over-winter here.

Grey Whale Watching, Baja Mexico - Dive DiscoveryThe spectacular annual migration of whales to the protected waters of Baja arrives in January each year. Gray whales, the first to arrive, are destined for three shallow lagoons the Pacific coast of Baja. San Ignacio Lagoon, the most remote of the three, lies midway between Magdalena Bay to the south and Scammon's Lagoon to the north. Surrounded by low dunes and mangrove lined estuaries, San Ignacio Lagoon provides a perfect home for Baja's most celebrated and magnificent winter visitors—the gray whales.

In this new program, twice-daily skiff rides deliver you to the whale viewing area, where you'll observe these gentle gray giants rolling, breaching, and tending their young. There's also plenty of down time to use our mountain bikes, or venture onto the salt flats with a friendly guide. You can also relax in the spacious palapa lounge with a book from our natural history library, or enjoy a cold drink from its fully-stocked bar.

Enjoy cocktails around the barbeque as you watch the spectacular sunset and whales passing by. You’ll be just a few short steps away from your comfortable cabaña, elevated from the sand. Each private cabin has a full or queen-sized bed, hardwood floors, and a sink with running water to enhance your stay.

At Cabañas Camp, we strive to provide a high level of amenities and services while using the most appropriate ecology and technology to honor our commitment to the environment.
