Itineraries for Liveaboard Diving in Thailand, Burma and India

Diving in Thailand is as popular as ever and our 10 night liveaboard dive safaris take you the best of the west coast of Thailand and into Burma. Dive sites range from sloping reefs and rocky outcroppings, huge granite boulders covered with soft corals and shallow coral gardens. It is this variety that attracts the abundant marine life that make diving in Thailand so appealing. Several species of shark can be found patrolling the waters of Phi Phi and the Similans, and manta rays are a common sight, whilst whale sharks make an occasional appearance. There are plenty of smaller creatures too and divers will discover several types of anemone fish on each dive, different species of ghost pipefish and seahorses as well as a fantastic array of molluscs. Although most of the diving locations in the region are now well known there are plenty of new dive sites waiting to be explored.

• Best of Thailand-Diving Phi Phi, Hin Deang and the Similan Islands
November-February - 10 nights

Departing from the island of Phuket the SY Oriental Siren takes you first eastwards to the islands of Phi Phi and the sites of the south Andaman Sea. We spend 1-3 days here before travelling back northwards to visit the Similan and Surin Islands and the offshore pinnacle of Richelieu Rock. Mantas are a likely event at Koh Bon in the Similans, whereas you can expect to leopard and black tip sharks in Phi Phi and Koh Taichai. Currents from the Malacca Strait bring the nutrients that attract whale sharks to the area of Hin Daeng- however diving here is dependnnt on favourable weather conditions as rough seas are often likely. Moray eels, angel fish, anemone fish, pipefish and barracuda are amongst some of the fascinating marine species to be found here.

• Similans and the Mergui Archipelago - Diving in Thailand and Burma
November - February - 10 nights - Available on special request

Departing also from Phuket, the SY Oriental Siren will make her way overnight directly to the Similan Islands. We spend 1-2 days diving here, exploring the remote reefs of Koh Bon and Koh Tachai before heading northwards for a days diving at Richelieu Rock. - the famous pinnacle! After sampling the delights of the Similans its time to head into Burmese waters. There are a vast number of sites to choose from and many new ones yet to be discovered. With several islands and out-croppings being so far off shore the dive sites selected will be based on the weather conditions. We expect to dive the Three Islets, Black Rock to the far north and plenty more in between. Nurse sharks, Tiger tail seahorses, ghost pipefish and mating Pharaoh cuttlefish are amongst the highlights for the trip.

• Andaman Islands, February to May - 8 and 9 nights

Venture to the remote islands of the Andaman Sea, for some world class diving. There are a range of dive sites to appeal to all divers, from steep sloped reefs, to towering pinnacles and fantastic coral gardens. The Andaman islands, although in Indian territorial waters are closer to Thailand however being remote they are best dived by liveaboard. The sites here are suitable divers of all experience levels and snorkellers, offering a variety of marine life from the cryptic trapeze crab and bobtail squid to schooling barracuda and manta rays.

The Oriental Siren departs from Port Blair on an 8 or 9 night diving adventure. The lack of commercial fishing around the Andaman Islands, results in unusually abundant fish populations, including bumphead parrotfish, Napoleon wrasse, dogtooth tuna and barracuda. We also find species endemic to the area such as the Andaman sweetlips and damsel fish. Visiting Barren island, unlike the name would suggest, rewards divers with pristine soft corals, and it is here we are most likely to see manta rays, whilst at the Passage it is common to see mobula rays and groupers. Despite recent concerns over coral bleaching, due to spikes in water temperature, many of the reefs of the Andaman Islands remain healthy and support diverse marine life.
