The Mekong is the largest river in South East Asia at around 4,500 kms
long. The river comes from the Tibetan Plateau, flowing through Tibet,
Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and the Mekong delta in Vietnam.
The Tibetans know the river as the "Turbulent River", the Cambodians
as "Great Water", the Vietnamese as the "Nine Dragons River"
and closer to home the Thai and Lao people refer to it as "Mai Nam
Kong" - Mother of Waters!
The Mekong has a long history of exploration and of
both slow and modern boats carrying passengers along it's waters. It is
well known at the Golden Triangle, at it's meeting with Tonle Sap in Phnom
Penh and for it's pristine environment. In Laos, for example, the Mekong
is the backbone for over 90 different tribal groups who live along the
river! It is this unique sense of adventure that we create when planning
your holiday itinerary.
Take a look at the various holiday programs contained
within our website, which are categorised by Mekong country. For a complete
visit of Indochina we would recommend combining a mix of countries into
your itinerary, depending on your available timeframe.
