L 'Tuamotu Archipelago located some 300 kms north east of Tahiti is composed of 76 atolls that barely half of them are inhabited. These islands are called low old craters disappeared under the effect of erosion and whose edges, colonized by corals, are only outcrops of white sand littered with shells and planted with coconut trees, as the Polynesians call "motu".
The climate in the Tuamotus is different from the high islands such as Tahiti and the Leeward Islands. The hot wet season, from December to February, here is more temperate with refreshing trade winds and reduced precipitation (usually at night), causing difficulties in the supply of freshwater. The air temperature varies from 26 ° C (in July) to 29 ° C (in February), the ocean, it varies from 25 to 29 ° c.
The Tuamotus, the disorientation is total, Away from city bustle. Life on the atolls is simple and quiet. The activity of the native, the Paumotus is summarized in copra, fishing and in recent years the culture of nacre (Pinctada margaritifera). Grafted, it will give the famous black pearls, Tuamotu endemic.
The inner lagoon, in fact, is a protected place, ideal for the establishment of pearl farms and parks to fish ...
Each atoll has a landscape of wild beauty. Viewed from above, they appear to be white rings placed on the indigo blue of the Pacific Ocean. The motus are covered with coconut groves interspersed with beautiful beaches and are separated from each other by small channels or "hoa".
The lagoons decline their jade green waters to turquoise blue, turning purple. They communicate with the ocean by many "hoa" but also by passes that are the preferred place to go to the meeting of the underwater fauna.
Rangiroa Atoll is paumotu most famous, particularly in terms of diving spots he has.
Not far from Rangiroa is an atoll, the second of its size, even though he has failed most of Polynesia Password: Fakarava...
