WESTERN PROVINCE
Much of the best land based diving in the Solomon
Islands is located in the Western Province on or near the islands
of New Georgia and Gizo. Spectacular wall dives covered with massive
brilliantly colored sea fans and soft corals, wrecks of airplanes,
huge schools of jacks and other good-sized fish, and... the occasional
hammerhead or other species of shark. Combine this diving with the
unique cultures (they vary from island to island) and unique opportunities
to look back into the past... both back to WWII and the islander's
headhunter past and this is an opportunity to be found nowhere else
in the world!
Gizo is the capital of the Western Province
of the Solomons. The furthest dive destination from Honiara. The
spectacular 1 1/2 hour flight from Honiara will dazzle you with
breathtaking views of the opalescent blues and greens that make
up the 900 islands of the Solomons. Gizo is for the true adventurer!
Fantastic walls and drop offs!
Munda is located on the beautiful Roviana
Lagoon, just 15 minutes flight from Gizo. A unique history of
head hunting with many artifacts to visit! Munda is ideally located
for those travellers who want to get off the beaten track
and head off in search of adventure. Along with the great
diving, you can arrange to visit Skull Island, an ancestral shrine.
In the center of the island the shrine is adorned with 30 human
skulls along with Bakhia, beautiful hand crafted shell money rings
of considerable value.
Uepi Island is on the north side of New Georgia
Island, across the world famous Marovo Lagoon. All the Western
Province dive resorts will have you understand why the Solomons
are called "The Islands Lost in Time."

specialty of the hotel's licensed restaurant, whilst an evening

for the Solomons.
Working out of the delightful resort of Agnes Lodge
Hotel in Munda, and situated on the beautiful Roviana Lagoon, Solomon
Sea Divers has gained a reputation for professional service and
excellent diving.
The operations is run by PADI Instructors Dave and

Sample Dive Sites around Munda:
|
Shark Point:
Droppping off an incredible 4 kms into the Coral Sea, this
site lives up to its name with sharks, huges schools of fish,
pelagics, and eagle rays.
Japanese Freighter:
A recent addition to our dives, this WWII shipwreck poses
more questions than answers, as its name and details are unknown
to us. Previously dived only by a handful of preofessional
divers, this wreck is in excellent condition and easily accessible.
Due to her relatively shallow depth of 16m, you'll have plenty
of time to help us unravel the mysteries of this virgin wreck.
For groups of 4 or more.
Rainbow Passage:
This pristine site offers two spectacular dives. The wall
with its teeming fish life, gorgonians, and impressive table
corals is a great first dive. This is complimented by the
second dive in the "Cabbage Patch", surely one of
the msot amazing coral gardens in the Pacific.
Top Shelf:
The gentle current that sweeps this shelf at 25m attracts
large schools of unicronfish, surgeonfish, batfish, and barracuda.
Sit back and watch the world go by at this relaxing site.
