8 Day Diving & Camping in Baja California Sur

Baja, Mexico

Sea of Cortez: Isla Espiritu Santo Glamping
Sea of Cortez: Isla Espiritu Santo Glamping

Itinerary

Day 1:
Afternoon: Arrive in Cabo (SJD) and Transfer to Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park

The Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park is home to the Sea of Cortez’s only living coral reef - the northernmost coral reef in the eastern Pacific - and is a UN World Heritage Site. The marine park was established in 1995 as a result of the efforts of local citizens who wanted to restore the marine life that had been dramatically depleted due do overfishing. In 2009 the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in San Diego released the results of a 10-year study on Cabo Pulmo in which they called the park the “most robust marine preserve in the world”, and demonstrated that the total amount of fish in the reserve had increased 460% between 1999 and 2009. Cabo Pulmo has recovered to a level comparable to a pristine site that has never been fished by humans and it’s an absolutely remarkable place to investigate. Move into Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort and welcome dinner.

Day 2:
All Day: Cabo Pulmo Diving Day

We’ll spend today out on the water, diving in some of the most beautiful spots of Cabo Pulmo. One of the really cool things about Cabo Pulmo is the huge schools of huge fish that you see on the dives. A truly fabulous day! Overnight and dinner at Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort.

Day 3-7:
Transfer to La Paz / Sea of Cortez: Isla Espiritu Santo Glamping

The Sea of Cortez is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is home to 39% of the world´s total number of marine mammal species, a third of the world´s marine cetacean species, and 891 fish species. We’ll make our home for the next 4 nights at Camp Cecil, our luxury tent camp on one the island’s most beautiful beaches, and from there we’ll explore the incredible world that surrounds us. We’ll take daily 2-3 tank dive trips to amazing places like the permanent sea lion colony of Los Islotes, the hammerhead shark hang-out of El Bajo, cool wrecks like the Fang Ming and the Salvatierra, and beautiful reefs like Swanee and Naked Lady.

After diving you can just hang out and enjoy our beautiful camp, or you can go kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling, bird watching or hiking. Sea turtles are often in the waters just off camp, and we’re always on the lookout for the whales, dolphins, porpoises, manta rays and whale sharks that frequent these waters. Sunset happy hour every day and beautiful meals prepared by our camp chefs every day. In short, paradise.
