Kararu Dive Voyages is the
brain child of three young individuals who recognized the demand
in the market for a diving cruise-ship operation in Indonesia
that combined the traditions of this fascinating group of islands
with the experience and professionalism offered by a team of
western dive instructors/operators.
It has been said that Indonesians
are the friendliest and politest people on the planet. The founders
of Kararu Dive Voyages recognized this as being only one of
their gifts. They also derive from a multicultural, nation of
over 15,000 islands. These people have salt water in their blood.
The on board team comprises Indonesians from islands as far
apart as Sumatra and Sulawesi, Java and Sumbawa, Bali and Flores
but the combination of these different island cultures combined
with the crew’s natural and sincere kindness towards others
makes for a special team of gifted seamen and friendly personalities.
Experience on board is essential
to any successful diving liveaboard but the founders also recognized
that the operation could only succeed if it had experienced
and effective shore support. A Swiss-educated Operations Manager
was employed with experience in both cruise-ship operations
and hotel resort management. The founders went further. They
understood that many operations in underdeveloped countries
fail to deliver on their commitments to customers due to lack
of spare parts supply and essential maintenance skills. They
found a company in the largest Indonesian port that they contractually
employed to maintain the vessel. This company was the owner/operator
of 100 tugboats and over 20 freight carriers and employs in
excess of 2,000 people in every major port of the vast Indonesian
archipelago. The company has its own warehouse of equipment
for every aspect of marine equipment as well as its own boat-building
yard that gives both the founders and customers of Kararu Dive
Voyages peace of mind.
