Adventurous diving trips in the mystical and virtually unexplored areas of Raja Ampat and Manokwari, Papua Irian Jaya (the western half of the island of New Guinea).

We offer an opportunity for adventurous divers to experience some of the world's most exiting and varied diving. We specializes in two or three week adventurous diving trips in the mystical and virtually unexplored areas of Raja Ampat and Manokwari.

Two different dive trips are offered, one (a nature, reef diving orientated trip) in the Raja Ampat Islands area, starting from Sorong's Jefman Island airfield. The other (a partly nature, partly wreck diving orientated trip) starting from Manokwari airfield and continuing to the islands area after the first week.

Besides the dive we will ensure possibilities to also explore the area above water, visiting villages to meet the local people, jungle walking to see waterfalls and caves or just climb a hill to admire the view.

Dr. Allen counted and documented during the dive, 273 different fish species while making a one-hour dive on one of the new favorite dive sites. On his first visit, Dr. Allen stated in a report for Conservation International, that the reefs were among the best he had ever seen and that he had never seen so many big fish during any of his previous visits in Indonesia!

Misool Eco Resort

Our private resort island, Batbitim, is fringed with powder-white beaches, protected by stunning clear lagoons and abundant reefs. With just nine guest holiday cottages, Misool Eco Resort is able to offer exclusive luxury diving holidays, surrounded by the world's richest reefs.

Our holiday cottages are built to European standards of comfort and safety, artfully blending indigenous natural materials with meticulous detailing. Every single piece of lumber used to build our small haven as has been milled from salvaged driftwood and free-fallen timbers collected in Raja Ampat and the nearby island of Seram.

Our eight deluxe Water Cottages rise on stilts over the placid North Lagoon. Each of these spacious cottages features a private veranda on which you'll enjoy gentle tropical breezes and glorious equatorial views. With steps leading down from your veranda, the house reef is just a few fin-kicks away. Each holiday cottage is equipped with air conditioning, a comfortable bed, a mini-bar, a massive veranda with a built in hammock, and a Balinese-style en suite bathroom.

Our beach-front restaurant is located on the North Beach, looking out over a shallow turquoise lagoon. It's the perfect place to enjoy a sunset drink while watching the black tip reef sharks hunting in the bay.

The menu has been created with the discriminating palate in mind by our internationally-trained chef. We offer exceptionally tasty, nutritious, and whenever possible, organic fare from local sources. Of course, we also offer some international delicacies.

The Dive Centre has been designed to meet the needs of professional videographers and photographers. There are separate wet and dry areas, with individual diving equipment stations and television for viewing the day’s images. Perhaps best of all, there is a spacious sun-deck on which to enjoy the spectacular top-side views.

Our Sustainability Commitment + No-Take Zone

Misool Eco Resort is strongly committed to a policy of environmental responsibility. MER has reached an agreement with our local hosts to create a No-Take Zone. We have leased more than 400 km of sea surrounding Batbitim. This includes many of Raja Ampat's finest dive sites, including the Manta Cleaning Station, Boo, Fiabacet, Gorgonian Passage, and Yillet. Within this area, all fishing, shark finning, harvesting of turtle eggs and shellfish are strictly prohibited. We also require all boats to practice reef-safe anchoring.

The construction and operation of the resort have been meticulously engineered to minimise our environmental impact. In addition to salvaging driftwood and milling our own lumber, we've engineered our buildings with energy efficiency in mind. We've installed waste water gardens to minimise our consumption, and we're experimenting with solar and wind power to augment our generators.

Perhaps most importantly, MER is dedicated to safeguarding the local community in which we operate. Our labour force is drawn largely from Yellu, the closest village. We're proud to offer them favourable working conditions, health benefits, job training, and English lessons.

Misool Conservation Centre

The Misool Conservation Centre will be located on a small beach on the north side of the Batbitim. A UK-registered non-profit, the Conservation Centre will provide a well-equipped, functional base for scientific research and conservation projects, as well as accommodation for visiting researchers and scientists. It is our aim to facilitate continuing research, with hopes of filling a critical gap in our understanding of this complex and important ecosystem.

One of the Conservation Centre's first projects was to assemble a local team to patrol and enforce the No-Take Zone.
