COST: $2,900 usd per person – GREAT VALUE! INFO ON THE SPECIAL MANTA TRIP: You may have seen the recent article in National Geographic about the massing of the manta rays in the tiny lagoon called Hani Faru in Baa atoll. It is one of the world’s most spectacular events and it is great to see this outstanding marine eco system being protected. Many of our guests have witness this massing of the rays and whales sharks at first hand, last year we saw hundreds of mantas gorging themselves on the plankton rich waters, with up to 5 whale shark swimming through the circles of 100 plus manta rays, an incredible sight. Lisa and Dave from Sea Queen the cruise directors were lucky enough to capture it all on video. Our MD first saw this behavior in 1994, in a lagoon in North Male Atoll. It has also been seen in Ari Atoll and of course Baa atoll. So what’s the common dominator, well it is for sure the equinox. Why I guess it’s due to the king tides we get during this period. It is these tides that sweep plankton into the atolls which get stuck in lagoons like Hani Faru in Baa atoll, and so the mantas and whale sharks follow this rich food source and literally eat it all up. Like all things in nature there are no guarantees, but we have been observing this behavior over many years so we are pretty sure if you join the Sea Queen or Sea Spirit during the August to November period you have a very good change of seeing the massing of the manta rays. Remember it’s not just Baa where it happens but for sure Hani Faru lagoon is a great place to be when it is going off.
