June
11-21, 2006 - 10 nights on board the Nautilus Explorer for a true
adventure, awesome diving combined with kayaking among the glaciers,
humpbacks and orcas, hikes on remote shores, sightings of the black
and grizzly bear in their natural habitat….all of this scenery
at epic proportions…you don’t want to miss this trip,
come join us!!!
Your adventure begins when you board the Nautilus
Explorer in the fishing village of Steveston which is 15 minutes
from Vancouver International Airport. We will be ready for boarding
at 1300hrs and you should be onboard no later than 1500hrs as we
set sail up Georgia Strait. Overnight passage up the coast.
Day
2 – 3
Wake up in the Port Hardy area and get ready to dive sites recently
ranked as #1 in the world by Rodales Magazine (including old favorites
like Browning Pass). ). Non-divers will be kept busy as well with
kayak lessons, fishing opportunities and other activities led by
our onboard naturalist.
Day
4
Pinnacle diving with "lots" of fish in Hakai Pass surrounded
by pristine white sand beaches. If the weather cooperates, this
is a great chance for a beach bonfire.
Day 5
Dive the vertically orientated and very cool wreck of the Transpac.
We'll also visit the abandoned cannery of Butedale with a beautiful
hike through the rainforest. Later, we will transit the very scenic
Grenville Channel.
Day
6
Morning stop in Ketchikan to clear customs and stretch our legs
before continuing on to the quintessential small Alaskan community
of Meyers Chuck. 2 very good dives plus another wonderful "walking"
opportunity.
Day 7
Early morning transit of the twisted waterways of Wrangell Narrows,
"sail by" Petersburg with the rest of the day spent exploring
the truly awesome and spectacular calving glacier and icebergs of
Le Conte Bay.
Day
8 – 9
Wooden Island (weather permitting), Coronation Island, Yasha Island
with it's famous sea lions and some of the best diving in Alaska!
Day 10
More fabulous diving in Sitka Sound before a late afternoon arrival
in the town of Sitka to clear Customs.
Day 11
Breakfast followed by disembarkation.
Notes
on the activities.
We will likely do 16 - 18 'feature' dives during a 11 day / 10 night
trip. However, please remember that these trips are the 'full meal
deal' with lots of other activities including kayaking, fishing,
birding and shore hikes as well as up close viewing of icebergs,
calving glaciers, spectacular scenery, black and grizzly bears,
humpback whales, orcas, natural hot-springs, etc. Fishermen will
have the opportunity to go fishing for salmon or halibut from our
small 8 hp skiffs. Please note that these skiffs are intended for
use in sheltered waters only and that we do not allow jigging for
rockfish along reef structures. Kayakers will have lots of opportunities
to go paddling in our Necky Santa Cruz kayaks with instruction available
to less experienced paddlers.
We hope that you will join us and promise you a wonderful
experience that you will never forget! We welcome all feedback,
comments and ideas.
