VANUA LEVU
Vanua Levu is the second largest island of the Fiji
archipelago. The island is remote and rugged with an expansive coast
surrounded by an extensive coral reef system. Vanua Levu is less
developed than the bigger island of Viti Levu and offers guests
an ideal opportunity to observe local culture & traditions.
The Savusavu area is a small, lesser developed township, which is
gaining popularity as a dive destination, with a truly magnificent
bay and exclusive resorts.
Jean Michele Cousteau's Fiji Island Resort

Jean Michele Cousteau’s Fiji Island Resort is
located on Vanua Levu. The resort is settled in a 17-acre coconut
grove, with 20 traditional thatched-roof bures artfully assembled,
lending a sense of relaxed ease. A gracious staff is ready to provide
the ultimate in personal attention. Cousteau’s is a family
oriented resort catering to children of all ages with a specially
designed Bula Camp that combines fun & learning. Due to the
layout of the resort, Cousteau’s can also be enjoyed by the
discerning individual.
Accommodations
Built on the site of a former coconut plantation, the 17-acre resort features 25 spacious bures. Built of local timbers, these traditional thatched Fijian bungalows provide privacy, comfort and personalized service. Each bure features rattan furnishings, king-size bed with custom-made mattress, small sitting area with desk, wooden louvered windows, overhead fan, and private deck with garden or ocean views. Oversized bathrooms in warm Italian tile offer double sink basins, separate shower, and hair dryer. Other amenities include minibar with complimentary beverages and snacks, French press coffee maker, plush robes and tropical flowers. To ensure a serene environment, the bures have no telephones or televisions.

Diving
They have over 20 moored dive sites from 5 minutes
to 1 hour away using the custom built dive vessel, "L'Adventure."
The dive sites are located to the south and west in the Koro Sea,
with some being:
Big Blue – a spectacular drop off with giant gorgonian fans
covered with feather stars. A perfect place to watch turtles, mantas
& large fish cruising by.
Hole in the Wall – A vertical drop off supporting huge gorgonian
fans, large tuna, Spanish mackerel, barracuda with bronze whalers
lurking in the depths below.
Na Sonissoni Passage – A drift dive along a wall covered with
every variety of pristine hard & soft coral imaginable. Swim
across the passage to the purple bommies, a mass of purple soft
corals fed by the nutrient rich Koro Sea, large barracuda, circling
gray reef shark and white tips cruise everywhere.
