Kangaroo Island
Home
of the leafy sea dragons & weedy sea dragons. A 15 minute flight
from Adelaide, Kangaroo Island is home to sheep farms, kangaroos,
koalas and surprisingly good diving! Jim Thiselton and his wife
own a former sheep ranch, they spend most of their time hosting
youth hostel tours and operating a bed and breakfast lodge. The
accommodations are basic, the former sheep farm is now home to a
great variety of animals, and it is a nice change of scenery and
a peaceful spot to stay and explore!
Jim is a friendly and enthusiastic diver who will show you all the
secrets of his great blue backyard. He has a true communion with
animals; he can bring in sea eagles to feed right in front of your
camera or huge four wrasses called blue grouper eating our of his
hand. You will see the elusive leafy sea dragon. The weedy sea dragon
resembles a large seahorse, with appendages that look like algae.
A beautiful animal and very hard to find. (except for Jim, he can
find them within 10 minutes of getting you in the water). You can
also visit the New Zealand fur seals frolicking underwater.
Kangaroo
Island is renowned for its wilderness parks. You can see sea lions,
koalas sleeping in trees, emus running about along with kangaroos
hopping about. A gorgeous area is call Remarkable Rocks, which features
huge, strangely sculpted rocks sitting over the ocean. These rocks
and their location is unusual and striking, almost mystical.

Ningaloo
Reef WHALE SHARKS, this is a unique ocean occurrence...swimming
with the largest fish in the ocean. From March to June each year
these gentle giants converge on the nutrient rich waters of the
Ningaloo Reef. This time of year is when the coral spawns occur,
inviting a plethora of tiny shrimp called krill, which in turn bring
in the whale sharks to feed! You will be out in the day boats, with
the help of a spotter plane to find the pods of whale sharks! They
talk to the boats and get you in line with the approaching whale
sharks... one, two, three, jump! You are on snorkel and come face
to face with these gentle giants! Truly an experience of a life
time, not to be missed!
