Worldwide Great White Shark
Experience: 29 years
Where: Isla Guadelupe, Mexico
Isla Guadalupe is a volcanic island located 241 kilometers (150 statute miles) off the west coast of Mexico's Baja California peninsula and some 400 kilometers (250 statute miles) southwest of the city of Ensenada in Baja California state - in the Pacific Ocean.
Since the year 2000, the Great White sharks's migration to Isla Guadelupe to hunt elephant seals has been heavily documented. Since then, over 100 different sharks have been identified and catalogued in this region, making Isla Guadelupe the world capital for Great White shark encounters.
Big Animals Expeditions has invited legendary filmmaker and speaker Stan Waterman on his 90th birthday to dive cageless with us and the Great White Shark. Stan will be joining us on both expeditions with his expertise, wit, and endless energy— and we would like you to join us for this once-in-a-lifetime trip together!
While Amos leads the shark expeditions, Stan and his world-reknown camera skills and storytelling will create a documentary about your face-to-face shark encounters.
The Everest of Diving
For an additional fee, you will be able to experience an out-of-the-cage adventure
— being out in the blue with these incredible animals. Following safety and strict protocol procedure — under the right conditions — you will be led one at a time by Amos with safety divers watching your back, closer to a great white shark than anyone can dream. Stan Waterman will be filming your unique encounter all the while.
Ask about the diving out-of-the-cage option with Amos when you register for the expedition and he can provide you with testimonials from past adventurers who have conquered the Everest of diving.
The Great White Shark
The Great White Shark is a slow-growing and long-lived shark. It gives birth to just a few young, which makes it highly vulnerable to over fishing and slow to recover from over-exploitation. Because of this, conservationists have been concerned with the vulnerability of the white shark to the point of possible extinction, and it is currently considered a species of concern in the IUCN (World Conservation Union) Red List.
The Vessel - Sea Escape
The Sea Escape, a 110 ft. aluminum vessel made for divers by divers, with private bathrooms in every stateroom, large living room with TV set, DVD, VCR, PC with software to download photos, fully air conditioned, water maker and nitrox blending system. There are also three cages on board so every participant can be in the water at the same time. For the cageless operation, we have a crane that lowers the cage 40 ft. underwater.
