Dive Two Countries South Africa

The true meeting place of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans is at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent. The first eight of the sixteen day Safari are spent exploring and diving in the chilly yet rewarding waters to the west of Agulhas, in the Atlantic Ocean. Divers will be able to be at one with Cape Fur Seals and Jackass Penguins, explore the colorful and beautiful reefs of the Cape Peninsula and penetrate deep into the many wrecks that lie scattered along the coastline of the notorious Cape of Storms. The highlight of your dives in the Atlantic will be your encounter with Great Whites. We then move east to the warmer and exciting waters of the Indian Ocean. The Indian Ocean sharks, dolphins, whales, reefs and wrecks are unrivalled anywhere in the world and are within easy reach of the average diver.

Day 1:
Arrive Cape Town International Airport. Day spent sight seeing and exploring the beautiful Cape Peninsula including the majestic Table Mountain, Cape Point, Chapman's Peak Drive and Kirtenbosch Botanical Gardens. The next two nights are spent at the Avenue Protea Hotel in the quaint seaside village of Fish Hoek.

Day 2:
A full day diving in the Atlantic Ocean with the only 5 Star PADI dive charter in Cape Town. The actual sites that we will dive depend mainly on the weather and prevailing winds, either the western or eastern seaboards. The first dive will be on one of the many wrecks scattered around the Peninsula, and on the second dive we will meet the Cape fur seal on his home turf. A full tank dive with the playful and friendly Cape fur seal. This is a diving experience not to be missed.

PenguinDay 3:
Another day exploring the many wrecks and reefs around the Cape Peninsula. The second dive will be the highlight of the day, a penguin dive! We can show you the best way to get up close to greet these friendly aquatic animals in their native habitat. There will be plently of photographic opportunities for the underwater photographer.

Day 4:
Depart the Mother City for the four-hour spectacular drive the heart of the winelands to the Grootbos Nature Reserve in the seaside fishing village of Gansbaai where we will be spending the next four nights.

GReat White Shark DivingDay 5:
A full day spent on the water in Shark Alley, a narrow channel between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock, home to some 60,000 fur seals and which is 5km (3 miles) from the mainland. This is the natural hunting ground of the Great White Shark and the area in which they are most commonly encountered.

Days 6-7:
Two action-packed days in the company of the Great White Shark.

Day 8:
After a leisurely breakfast we depart Gansbaai for Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the continent and the true meeting place of the mighty Indian and Atlantic Oceans. From here we head inland and travel through the wheatlands to the Protea Santos Hotel overlooking Mossel Bay.

Day 9:
The first of our Indian Ocean dives, two dives and, weather permitting, a night dive. Whales calve in the bay between Spetember and November and Great Whites abound due to the large colony of seals found on Seal Island. Large schools of hammerheads are also often encountered so this is not going to be an ordinary dive!

Day 10:
Depart Mossel Bay for the railway station in George, one of the oldest towns in South Africa. At 09:30 we board the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe, South Africa's last scheduled steam train service for the two and a half hour journey to Knysna. This spectacular and unique steam train ride winds rapidly down to the sea, past fern-covered hills and gullies studded with wild flowers and is the ideal way to view the Garden Route. Knysna is a quaint village set on the banks of a natural lagoon which opens onto the Indian Ocean via the famed and treacherous Knysna Heads. The rest of the day is spent exploring the town or, for the dive junkies, diving the wreck of the Paquita (1903) or looking for the rare and endangered sea horse Hippocampus capensis that is endemic to the Knysna Lagoon.

Day 11:
Two dives with the dive charter a stone's throw from Ai Due Camini. Knysna boasts seven individual dive sites with Bruce's Bank being rated as one of the most beautiful reefs along the entire coastline.

Day 12:
An early start for the short drive to Plettenburg Bay and two dives on one of six dive sites off Plettenburg Bay. Grootbank, Virgin Reef and Playground are huge reefs with fantastic sealife including nudibranchs, seaspiders, octopus, and numerous larger fish.

Day 13:
A day at leasure with the following alternatives:
- Two dives at either Knysna or Plettenburg Bay
- Exploring the Featherbeds Nature Reserve
- A stroll through the Knysna Forest looking for the elusive Knysna elephants
- A one and a half hour journey over the Outeniqua Mountains to the town of Oudtshoorn and the well-known ostrich farms and world-famous Cango Caves.
- Just lazing around the guest house!

Water BuffaloDay 14:
After breakfast we continue up the Garden Route through the Tsitsikamma National Park to arrive at Shamwari Game Reserve in time for the night drive in open four wheel drive vehicles. Overnight Shamari.

Day 15:
An early morning game drive and return to camp for brunch. The heat of the day is spent sitting in a hide watching the animals come down to drink, or relaxing around the pool. In the evening we venture out into the African bush to hunt for the land-based Big 5 - lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, and buffalo, all of which reside at Shamwari. Overnight Shamwari.

Day 16:
After the early morning game-drive and brunch we take leave of the bush and the Big 5 for the one and a half hour drive to Port Elizabeth and our flight to Cape Town to connect with our international flight home.

TRIP COSTS:
Dive Two Oceans: 15 nights USD $4500.00pp based on DBL.
